So that only the work stays on the screen
In 2009, as a student, I made myself an editor for writing down thoughts in the evening. I have been making software that way ever since — for books, tasks and 3D models. Independently, and without ads.
How it went
2009
An editor for the evening
I came across OmmWriter, but it only ran on Mac. I wanted the same for Windows, so I made ZenWriter: a dark theme — still a rarity back then — key sounds, quiet music and hardly any buttons.
2012
Files and copies
The first version lost text pasted from a browser. The second brought a document library and backups — with such a margin that they filled the disk. Those who remember, remember.
2014
Mac and a database
The third version moved to web technologies and came to Mac for the first time, and documents moved from RTF files into a database. Many found that less convenient, and I was never fully happy with that version myself.
2018
A try in the browser
The first browser version — made for myself, not for launch. People found it anyway, but I did not take it further then.
2020
ZenWriter in the browser
The version today’s ZenWriter grew from. Everything changed except the main thing — the atmosphere. Later it learned whole books — chapters, characters, research — and came back to Windows as an app.
Now
Three apps
ZenWriter for books. Beenokle Model to open a 3D model and make sense of it without CAD or an account. Beenokle Dos, since September 2026, for everything there is to do.
How I work
No ads
No Beenokle app shows ads. They live on subscriptions and purchases, not on your attention.
Free for good
What can be free is free with no end date: all of Model, and personal tasks in Dos.
Your files stay with you
Model opens 3D models right on your computer: no account, and nothing goes to the cloud.
One sign-in
One Beenokle account for ZenWriter and Dos, so you do not keep a login for every app.
